CHILDREN'S BOOK ILLUSTRATIONS
Bushyhead is a heartfelt, educational and uplifting children’s story of a young girl who is frustrated with her crazy curly hair and teased at school because of it. After seeing children at the hospital without hair, she learns to appreciate hers and share it with others. Bushyhead teaches black hair pride, self-love, compassion, and about cancer and hair loss.
I designed a set of colorful, detailed, warm, and friendly illustrations to complement this charming story. Creating page concepts and layouts, a look and identity for characters, and delightful background settings.

The story of Bushyhead deserves colorful, lively, endearing, playful & inviting illustrations to bring it to life. This was achieved through a mix of bright & pastel colors, hand-drawn outlined illustrations & delightful details.
The cover design focuses on the primary theme– big & bushy hair, with an up-close shot of the main character, a curly font I customized sitting in her afro.
